The training undertaken ensures that every Lifeguard possesses the skills and knowledge to handle a wide variety of incidents that occur on a day to day basis at aquatic centres.
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age, or turning 16 in the calendar year within which the course is to be held, in order to participate in this course.
A medium to high level of aquatic fitness is required for some practical components of the course.
Candidates must also be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
Pre requisite: Candidates must have completed their Provide First Aid qualification prior to this course.
Pre-Course Materials
Candidates will be provided with a Pool Lifeguard Pre-Course Workbook and Lifeguarding Manual which is to be completed and taken to your course. These resources will be provided within 48 hours from enrolment.
Subjects covered:
- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Provide first aid
- Provide emergency care
- Administer oxygen in an emergency situation
- Operate an automated external defibrillator in an emergency
- Perform basic water rescues
- Supervise clients in aquatic locations
- Perform advanced water rescues
The training course is conducted over two days. All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments (within time limits) and a theory exam (which includes multiple choose, true/false and short answer questions). Candidates need to be competent in all theory and practical components to successfully complete the award conditions in order to achieve a Statement of Attainment.
Candidates will received certificate by Royal Life Saving If they complete the course.
